Finishing up the restoration of my Charger and trying to figure out why my inner taillight (the light closest to the center) is brighter than the other 2.
--> This is the light with the black wire.

The outer 2 lights on each side have violet or green wires and are lit up normal until you hit the brakes (as they should), but the inner light on each side has a single black wire and is lit up (bright) like a brake light regardless if the lights are on all the way or just in park.

Brake Lights work as they should
Both turn signals work as they should.
The new wiring harness was purchased from Year One.

Question 1: Is this correct ?
Question 2: What is the function of the inner taillight with the black wire ?

Thanks
Mike

I think I found the answer while researching the bulb part numbers and how many watts they are rated for:  http://www.1970chargerregistry.com/mboard/index.php?topic=1502.0

Thanks

This is a pretty common problem people have on these cars, most without even realizing they have the wrong bulbs installed.

I have a problem on one of my 70's where the tail lights are very dim.  Turn, Brake and Parking lights all work but they're not as bright as my other cars.    Possibly a ground issue?   I replaced all the bults with the correct ones and same issue.   Thoughts?

That's what I figured.   Isn't the ground underneath the drivers seat for the rear harness?   Or the taillight housings and sockets ground through being bolted to the uni-body.    Someday I'll get to looking at it.  lol

They ground through the taillight housing to the body.  I picked one spot and sanded the housing and also the spot it would touch on the tailpanel to ensure a good ground.

I run ground jumpers as well. Can never have too many grounds!
