Don.  On a power drum car, is the brake booster suppose to be cad plated or black?  I'm seeing them both ways so I figured you did your homework before plating yours.

DD, if I may.

DD had problems with Totally Auto.  Pretty sure that's who he sent it off to originally.

Drum cars had the cad plated booster with natural colored master.
Hemi drum cars had the Bendix with the drum master.  (All painted black together as one unit)
Hemi disc cars had the Bendix with the disc master.  (All painted black together as one unit)
Disc cars had the Bendix with the disc master.    (All painted black....)

One of the last things I did to my blue car.  I was actually already paralyzed by then.
Lucky in that Booster Dewey is right across the river.  I think he did mine for like a hundred bucks, quite a while ago.

Curious.  I still see yellow lettered voltage regulators on over the top restorations.

The lettering is suppose to be white IIRC.  I had a white one stenciled up within my build date time frame & use it.

And they sell the white lettered ones now to boot.  It used to be all you could get where the yellow lettered ones.

Thanks guys.   Mike.  As i inspected by booster today it shows no signs of cad plating anywhere.  Black paint everywhere.   Is it possible that's the way it came?

I am pretty sure the Midland Ross booster should be gold cad finish.

Thanks Don,   That's strange because even the back side has black paint flaking off of it with bare metal underneath.  I would think there would be a sign of gold cad plating somewhere.    Crazy,  I'll be calling Booster Dewey today, doing a search now for his contact info.
Thanks guys for the help.   Bill

IIRC, mine was painted black over the top of the cad.

I talked to Dewey today and apparently since my booster doesn't have the clamp around it it's a Bendix drum brake booster.   He said a majority of the ones he's seen were painted black but he's also seen some strange things over the years.

$120 and I'll be rebuilt and ready to go.   I told him to leave mine bare blasting so I can paint it myself.   I'm picky . lol

It was about a decade ago or so but we had a big thread going on our boosters when I was rebuilding mine.
Like you, I researched the crap out of it & since I ended up going gold cad, pretty sure my consensus was cad being correct.   There's a few things I look at right away in engine bays.  Not because it's eye level for me either.
-the booster/mc
-whether or not there's an orange box on the firewall.  Firewall in general.
-top of front valance.  Only survivor rigs will I check.
-last but not least.  The front rad. support.  This one is a no brainer.  No one can argue whether it was done at the factory unless of course it was a color that didn't need it (black, I've heard of some f8 green being not done & I think blue).  But this is a big time pet peeve of mine.  Sure, it's your car to do what you want with it but don't proclaim it being a true factory representation.

There's a member with an EV2 Charger factory Hemi car.  He was very informative.  I'll see if I can rattle his cage & get him to respond.
He has a power drum car so naturally I thought Midland Ross.  Since the Hemi needed a booster with the brackets that pulled it away from the firewall they used the Bendix with the proper small drum master cylinder & painted it as one unit like the regular Bendix/disc mc.
I had never knew that let alone seen it.
